WHAT’S ON THE PLATE THIS MONTH?
We at Produce to Plate are proud to be exclusive distributors of Press’d Juice, 100% pure cold-pressed Australian juices. What is so special about cold-pressed juices is that they are made with cold hydraulic pressure, extracting the maximum amount of juices from fruit and vegetables, and also retaining the maximum amount of nutrients.
What is there not to love about silverbeet? Often confused with spinach, its close relative definitely has a cooler name and looks way more impressive with its large and thick white or pinkish-redish stem and vein appearance. Being a green vegetable silverbeet is naturally highly nutritious, containing magnesium, calcium, vitamin K and much more. Fully grown silverbeet is generally eaten cooked, but the young and tender leaves can be eaten raw.
Strawberries are amazing because they know how to make life that extra bit sweeter. One of the most beloved fruits for not just its bright and sweet flavour, but because they are a versatile fruit and are insanely good for you. Strawberries are packed with vitamins, fiber, contain high levels of antioxidants known as polyphenols, are sodium-free, fat-free, cholesterol-free, low-calorie food… we can go on!
MUST HAVE PRODUCE: VEGETABLES
Cauliflower is the perfect winter vegetable. There is plenty you can do in the kitchen by adding this versatile vegetable, which is high in fiber and B-vitamins to your next order. You can have it mashed, fried, and roasted. It also features very nicely in a soup and even tastes incredible with melted cheese over it.
Add fennel to your winter soup or roast for that added delicate flavour and softened texture. A part of the carrot family, fennel is slightly sweet and even gives a licorice or anise-like taste (particularly the leafy part). Fennel is high in vitamin C and is also typically used in salads.
Want to stay lean this winter? Add sweet potatoes to your daily diet. Considered a low-glycaemic food, sweet potatoes assist with weight loss and blood sugar levels. This mild, starchy, sweet flavour vegetable tastes great fried or roasted, with a crisp and caramelised exterior.
MUST HAVE PRODUCE: FRUIT
Start your journey to living ‘apple-y ever after’ with the deliciously firm, crisp and juicy Kanzi apple, now in season! An excellent source of fibre, Kanzi apples derive from a unique blend of the juicy Gala sort, and tangy and sweet Braeburn sort, giving it that perfect balance of sweet and sour flavour.
Mandarins are delightfully sweet and easy to prepare, making them an easy snack to stay healthy this winter. Did you know mandarins contain beta-carotene and beta-cryptoxanthin, which our bodies turn into vitamin A? Vitamin A is essential for a healthy immune system, good vision, and normal growth and development.
You are probably wondering what the heck the tangelo fruit is, right? Tangelo is a cross between a tangerine, part of the mandarin-orange family, and pomelo, similar to grapefruit. Mostly seedless, the reddish fruit is usually mistaken for an orange, and is deliciously juicy, sweet and rich in flavour.
